In the film Shawshank Redemption, based on the Stephen King story, after escaping from prison Red (Morgan Freeman) makes his way slowly to the ocean of his dreams.

"I hope to see my friend and shake his hand.

I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope."

He equates the vast blue ocean with freedom.
