When you work on something for a long time, eventually you'll see results and even signs of real change and perhaps even hope.
These two NPR radio reports from 2001 and 2017 mark different points along the path of recovery for black sea turtles in Mexico.
"I imagine being an old man and sitting around with some of these fishermen that are my age, with our grandkids. And seeing some turtles swimming around in a place that's beautiful. And I think, God, that's going to be great."
Collaboration, trust building, community-based citizen science, shifting perceptions, persistence, adaptation to change, and an understanding that people are driven by more than power and money have combined to bring sea turtles back from the brink of extinction.
But I think it's really about love.
