Ghost Ranch Education and Retreat Center in Abiquiu, New Mexico invites you to their flagship retreat of 2018, Sign of the Times, June 24-30, 2018.
'El agua es vida' translated from Spanish means ‘water is life.’ In the high desert of Northern New Mexico, water is not just a natural resource, it is a feature of culture, tradition, community, and the partnerships that sustain life. The high desert of northern New Mexico is an artifact of a great ancient sea and the catalytic forces that shaped this place.
Join us for the Sign of the Times retreat and immerse yourself in information about our planet's global crisis and its spiritual relationship to how we steward this planet's resources in this time of change. Ghost Ranch builds on the theme of Eco-Spirituality by bringing together experts in the field for this retreat - biologists, a poet and medical anthropologist, musicians, theologians, educators and community leaders.
To paraphrase an argument made in 1968 by Senegalese environmentalist Baba Dioum: 'we won’t save places we don’t love; we can’t love places we don’t know, and we don’t know places we haven’t learned." A symbiotic, relational ethos of watershed literacy and stewardship is crucial to the survival and flourishing of traditional societies.
The Keynote Speaker for the retreat will be Dr. Wallace “J.” Nichols, called “Keeper of the Sea” by GQ Magazine and “a visionary” by Outside Magazine. Nichols is an innovative, entrepreneurial scientist, movement maker, renown marine biologist, voracious Earth and idea explorer, wild water advocate, bestselling author, sought after lecturer, and devoted father.
Choose the track that appeals to you:
Watershed Disciplineship and Restorative Justice led by Ched Myers and Elaine Enns,
Climate Change Biology led by Stephen B. Hager, Ph.D., biology professor at Augustana College, IL,
Santo! Varieties of Latino Spirituality led by Edwin David Aponte, Executive Director of the Louisville Institute,
Imagining Peace and Justice led by poet and anthropologist Howard Stein.
