Theater Arts Teacher David Greenbaum first learned about The Blue Marble Project at a San Francisco Unified School District professional development session, when he received 5 Blue Marbles, one for each of his assigned schools. Mr. G wrote this song to encourage his students to participate in the gratitude project named after the iconic photo, taken in 1972 by the crew of the Apollo 17 spacecraft.
On March 17, Mr. G brought 6 classrooms from 3 different schools together to sing the song at the 2014 SFUSD Arts Festival at City Hall. The SFUSD Arts Festival, a celebration of student creativity in visual, literary, media and performing arts, was hosted by the Asian Art Museum.
Blue Marbles were given in gratitude to all of the performers from McCoppin Elementary, Sunnyside Elementary and Rooftop Alternative K-8 School. Now we invite you to join us in singing The Blue Marble Song.
The Blue Marbles Project is sharing random acts of blue gratitude around the world. Rock stars, presidents, kids, scientists, artists, explorers, eco-celebrities, teachers, business leaders...even the Dalai Lama and the Pope have received blue marbles.
The Blue Marble Game "rules" are pure and simple.
1. The marble must be blue (any shade, preferably glass).
2. When you get one, give it away to someone as a token of gratitude (whenever you like).
3. Share your story with the world (however you like).
