Milstein Science Series: Sea Turtles

Sea turtles are simply astounding!
They lived alongside dinosaurs 150 million years ago, and still survive today.
Playing a crucial role in our oceans’ ecosystems, this incredible animal group is now endangered due to climate change, poaching, habitat destruction, and accidental capture in fishing gear.
Learn more about these resilient aquatic creatures and the conservation efforts in place to protect them with Eleanor Sterling, Chief Conservation Scientist, Center for Biodiversity & Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History; Wallace J. Nichols, scientist and New York Times-bestselling author of Blue Mind; and Michael Coyne, executive director of seaturtle.org.
The event includes a live music performance by Bash the Trash, playing instruments made out of reused and repurposed materials.

Look at Museum collections, talk with scientists, and engage in hands-on activity stations.
Bash the Trash Performance

Learn how to reuse your plastics and turn them into music with performances by Bash the Trash.
Meet the Experts
Noon | 2:30 pm
Join scientists Michael Coyne, Wallace J. Nichols, Eleanor Sterling, and Mark Siddall in a moderated discussion about sea turtle research, conservation, and migration. Followed by an audience Q&A.
Workshop: From Trash to Tunes | 3 pm
Build your own musical instruments from recycled and reused materials. Join in a final concert and parade around the museum.
