Blue Mind the landmark book by marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols on the remarkable effects of water on our health and well-being has launched a global movement to reconnect people to their waters and is the inspiration for this annual award.
Join us in person on Sept 27th from 6-9 pm for an evening of music, food, wine and inspiration at the 3rd Coast Cafe & Wine Bar in Chicago or tune in for the live stream of the event here or on Facebook.
The Blue Mind Award honors those who explore new ways of understanding and evolving our relationship to healthy waterways with an intimate annual award presentation and conversation with the recipients. The award recognizes the efforts of an individual, group and/or organization that is a mechanism of positive change in his/her Blue community.
The first Annual Blue Mind Award was presented to Amanda and Van Curaza of Operation Surf in Palo Alto, CA and the second to University of Virginia Professor Tim Beatley, author of Blue Urbanism, in Washington, DC. This year we will recognize the fourty-year journey the community of Carbonale, IL completed this summer when they opened their first public swimming pool. Theirs is a story of tenacity, equality, access, justice and above all the love of water.
This year we will also share some details about the 7th Annual Blue Mind Summit to be held June 7-9th on Lake Superior.
