In the summer of 2003 my family trekked the entire coast from Oregon to Mexico, over 1,100 miles of our protected, accessible coastline joing a list of intrepid explorers and lovers of our golden shores.
It remains the best four months of our lives. All along we met so many different, inspiring people loving and protecting our coast in their diverse ways.
Without the 1976 Coastal Act that would have been a very different, probably impossible, expedition.
I thanked those who fought for the protections my family enjoys with each and every one of the 2,200,000 steps I took that summer. And we're appreciative every day we enjoy the cognitive, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual benefits of our state's ocean and coast.
Do you love California's coast the way it is – with access for all and open spaces?
