FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TAKE A DEEP DIVE INTO SUMMER FUN WITH ‘100 DAYS OF BLUE’ 2017
The 4th annual summer celebration of water encourages people to get near, in, on or under water from Memorial Day through Labor Day and will launch at the award-winning Lake Austin Spa Resort in Austin, TX.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - MAY 4, 2017 -- Have you ever wondered what summer would be without the beach, the pool or your favorite lake, river or stream? A simple garden hose is enough to bring squeals of happiness on a hot summer day.
Spending time around water is a summer tradition and one that has entertained people from all walks of life. Its impact on our lives is immeasurable and the many ways we intersect with water are countless.
Designed to shape the new story of water, ‘100 Days of Blue Mind’ asks people to get in, on, near or under water daily for 100 days and to share their experiences through their own personal networks and a vast array of social media platforms.
This simple, optimistic gesture of expressing love for our blue planet demonstrates the vital role it plays in our health and wellbeing and helps us tell the new story of water each year throughout all 100 days of summer.
The backbone of this year’s celebration is based on 100 crowd-sourced words that best describe the cognitive, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual benefits of water. A new word will be used each day along with images submitted by participants engaged in 100 Days of Blue Mind.
"We asked what “blue mind” benefits water provides, and people all over the world told us! Using these words to describe our multi-faceted relationship with water will deepen the discussion on the true value of the blue economy and expand the conversation to include the important ways access to healthy oceans and waterways makes all our lives better,” says Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, scientist and best selling author of, Blue Mind: The Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected and Better at What You Do.
“Our connection to water goes beyond economic, ecological and educational. We have a deeply emotional connection to water and many of us have found our lives irrevocably shaped by our relationship with it,” says Nichols. “Our mission is to reconnect people to water through deep, personal experiences and to simply share their love for it. Ideas and actions aren’t enough, unless they create movement. 100 Days of Blue is designed to do just that.”
There are hundreds of unique stories to tell and many ways to participate in 100 Days of Blue. You can give out a blue marble each day or simply share an image, thought, video or refection about your water using the #100daysofblue and #bluemind hashtags. You may also share your personal stories and photos with Blue Mind Life via email BlueMindLife@icloud.com
