This week, Discover Boating teamed up with Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, author of the best-selling book, Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do (Little, Brown & Co.), to host national consumer lifestyle media on the water in New York City to highlight the health/wellness benefits of boating.
Writers from participating media outlets including Men's Journal, Travel + Leisure, Good Housekeeping, SHAPE, Glamour, Martha Stewart Living, and People were onboard to discuss, and experience firsthand, the positive effects boating and life on the water has on the brain.
Through his work on Blue Mind, Dr. Nichols has identified that the mere sight and sound of water promotes wellness by lowering cortisol, increasing serotonin and inducing relaxation. Being on the water promotes physiological and psychological changes spanning health and wellness, awe and wonder, creativity and play, happiness and relaxation.
