In this article, the husband-and-wife authors describe how their family tried an experiment in living with zero waste as part of a working vacation studying the endangered hawkbill sea turtles in El Salvador. During the experiment, each family member consumed three coconuts a day for three weeks. Aside from enjoying the health benefits of drinking coconut water, the authors noticed that they also minimized plastic thrash that threatened the turtles. The family also did beach cleanups and outlined ways individuals can participate in Zero Waste programs.
