I write about the connections between people and nature. Often about our own fragile nature and humanity. Frequently, simple and descriptions of momentary interactions.Strung together, these poems bounce like a life bounces.
As a student of life, a scientist, I explore my own biology and interdependence with the wild. In particular, I am attracted to aspects of life that make the least sense scientifically, but are often the most important to us, a theme that comes through my writing with some regularity.
I write poems for myself—they’re an instinctive reaction to the world around me—and I write them for those I love. I write them for the places I’ve lived, to somehow hold time. Many of the places I have written about are changing quickly.
Sharing these poems publicly came as a later idea and I do so with some hesitation. My hope is that they feel familiar and as such, are a comfort. And I hope somehow they help to repair what is broken in nature and ourselves.
My biological father is said to have been an excellent writer of poetry. He hasn’t shared his poems and now is unlikely to ever do so. Sharing my poems is an act of reverence for and a tribute to the poet that lives in our blood.
Many of the places I have written about and people I have written for understand the Spanish language. I honor them by presenting my writing in both my native English with a translation to Spanish.
