April 14, 2015 ~ Writers for the Sea

 

Next Tuesday at the Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito, CA, three ocean writers–David Helvarg, Wallace J. Nichols, PhD and Susan Middleton–will be discussing bay, coast and ocean health, and what inspires them to dedicate their lives to the deep blue.

 

David Helvarg is a former war correspondent who covered the Irish civil war in the early 1970s and the Central American conflicts in from 1979 to 1983 before turning his focus to the environmental movement and founding an ocean lobbying organization, the Blue Frontier Campaign. His book, Saved by the Sea, prompted a powerful message from Her Deepness, Dr. Sylvia Earle — “This book has the power to change the way you think about the world, about yourself, and the future of humankind.”

Dr. Wallace J. Nichols is a wild water advocate, a sea turtle conservationist and a Research Associate at the California Academy of Science. Read a Scuttlefish interview about his book, Blue Mind, with him here.
